South Jersey Spotlight on Fusion Employer Services

Your employees shouldn’t get this angry over HR mishaps – call Lauren Flounders!

Lauren Flounders of Fusion Employer Services offers something more tempting than chocolate. She provides HR services (and other employment-related functions) that free up your time and save your company money.

As a bonus, she’s the ultimate professional. Lauren is a gal who understands the importance of offering unconditional help within her ever-widening networking circle in South Jersey…

By All Writes: Why did you decide to acquire a Fusion Employer Services territory? When did you acquire the southern NJ territory?

Lauren Flounders: I worked at American Staffing Resources for 27 years, weathering changes like the owners selling the business to a company in North Carolina 22 years in. My husband and I raised a blended family of 6 children; when they were grown and there was time for us, I was on the road as Vice President of National Sales.

About three years prior to my leaving American, the founders of Fusion, Dan Surtz and Joe Carfagno, began calling on me. They wanted to combine their Professional Employer Organization (PEO) services with those of American. I was going to learn their industry and and teach my sales team how to market it. But then the recession came along, and American’s owners decided to wait. My husband and I knew it was something I was excited about, so we downsized, took the equity spread, and launched my Fusion business in October of 2009.

BAW: What services do you offer your potential clients?

LF: Fusion offers a cost-effective workforce solution to employment-related functions, including Human Resources, Benefits, Payroll, 401(k)s and Workers Compensation/Risk Management. By partnering with Fusion, my clients benefit because they have access to an “HR department down the hall,” but the cost is leveraged across hundreds of other Fusion clients. By eliminating direct HR administration responsibility, my clients free up their time to focus on growing their core business.

BAW: Who makes a good client for you?

LF: I’m most able to help any business owner with 10 – 200 employees. Typically, my clients are frustrated with the complexities of HR compliance regulations and want to streamline their operations and save money.

BAW: What is your ultimate “happy moment” when working with your clients?

LF: As our relationships deepen, my individual clients begin to understand and appreciate the depth of Fusion’s HR support services. For example, one client wanted to set up a fair incentive program for performance-based rewards and considered hiring an outside consultant. I told them Fusion could establish the program as part of our bundled services, at no additional cost. This was just one of my many happy moments; everyone is happy when Fusion provides real, measurable HR cost savings!

BAW: If you could relocate your Professional Employer Organization services to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

LF: I have a wonderful son, daughter-in-law, and two beautiful grandchildren down near Disney World, so I would consider moving my business to Orlando, Florida. However, I would continue to run my southern New Jersey PEO territory as well, since I have a number of children and grandchildren still in this area. I realize I just defined myself as a business “snowbird!”

BAW: What is your favorite book (or who is your favorite author) to read and why? Please share generously!

LF: The first book I read as a young adult was Master of the Game by Sidney Sheldon. It was captivating enough to make me want to have a book in my hands ever since. These days, reading novels is my evening “me time” ritual. I enjoy books by James Patterson, Michael Connelly, Jonathan Kellerman, Jeffery Deaver, William Kent Krueger, Tami Hoag, and many, many more.
