South Jersey Spotlight on Bonny Clayton, Your Web Chick

Be master of your (digital) domain with assistance from Bonny Clayton of Your Web Chick!
Be master of your (digital) domain with assistance from Bonny Clayton of Your Web Chick!

My first encounter with Bonny Clayton of Your Web Chick happened through a random act of business-networking kindness. This past spring, Sara Rosenberg of PowerMatch invited me to be her guest at a networking triad in Haddonfield (at Jersey Java and Tea).

Little did I know then of Bonny’s immense talent as a web designer and social-media consultant. However, it was the discovery of our shared passions for all things LEGO and sly, crafty quotes from the movie The Princess Bride that cemented our friendship’s foundation.

(Bonny, if you’re reading this, I happen to have in my possession a certain book recently penned by The Man in Black. I’m happy to lend it to you–as you wish!)

Are you in need of a skilled web designer who will steer you in the right direction and never overcharge for her services? Well then, please meet Bonny Clayton of Your Web Chick:

By All Writes: Why did you decide to start Your Web Chick? When did you found/start it?

Bonny Clayton: Your Web Chick started out as Timely Manner Consulting (in January of 2011) after a nasty “breakup” with my employer. Leading up to that point, I had been honing my skills in web design, social media, and e-mail marketing for nine years. So when the opportunity to part ways presented itself, I grabbed it.

I really wanted to help small-business owners who seemed like they were getting taken for a ride because they didn’t know any better. A little over a year ago, I developed the Your Web Chick “brand.” The name Timely Manner Consulting no longer represented what it is that I do.

BAW: What specific website design, social media, and e-mail marketing services do you offer your current and potential clients?

BC: I offer web design and redesign, mostly on the WordPress platform. But my background is in HTML, so I can really get under the hood and customize my clients’ sites. I also offer ongoing maintenance services for websites.

When it comes to social media, I’m more of a “mechanic” than a “manager.” I help clients get their social media in place by optimizing their profiles and images. Then I teach them how to use their selected platforms and give them a jump-start regarding content development.

For e-mail marketing, I like to refer to myself as a “technician.” I’m not heavy on the content creation, but if you know what you want to say, I can help you implement an e-mail sequence and/or design a newsletter template.

BAW: Who makes a good client for you?

BC: Small business owners and entrepreneurs who have a pretty good handle on their message and branding make the best clients for me. They should at least have a business logo and some idea of their “company colors.”

Someone who recognizes the importance of a website as the central hub for their online marketing efforts is a plus! This could be someone with no website at all, or someone who is no longer IN LOVE with his/her antiquated, long-suffering website (insert virtual teardrop here)…

BAW: What is your ultimate “happy moment” when working with your clients?

BC: That “WOW” moment for me is when a client sees the entire website project come together and we launch the blessed thing. KAPOW!

BAW: If you could relocate Your Web Chick to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

BC: With the understanding that I could bring my entire family with me and/or have the means to see them anytime I want: I’m off to Ireland. The country is so breathtakingly beautiful to me–the people are amazing. I spent nine days there 15 years ago, and I’ve wanted to return ever since.

BAW: What are your favorite books (or who are your favorite authors) to read and why? Please share generously!

BC: How much time (and data storage capacity) do you have?!? Okay, without taking up too much space or time, here are a few books that immediately come to mind:

Moonheart by Charles de Lint, because it is perfectly crafted urban fantasy that I get entirely lost in. I’ve read it three times.

Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, because it’s another one I get completely lost in. I especially enjoy the fable element in the storytelling. I’ve read this book twice.

The Child Queen by Nancy McKenzie, because of the deep, rich storyline and well-drawn characters. I read this while I was going through a King Arthur (and his Knights of the Round Table) phase. It was a bit slow-going at first (because it read like a history lesson), but once I got past that, I was hooked.

Pretty much anything by Stephen King or Dean Koontz–whatever the reasons, I identify with their particular storytelling styles.

Have you had enough of web developers who charge a wheelbarrow-sized amount of cash while your site is in development (and then they “quarter and half-dollar” you for updates and/or maintenance after launch)? Looking for a social-media consultant who will ensure you understand what you’re doing (and why) on the various social-media platforms you use?

Your frustrations and fruitless searching will mercifully end once you entrust yourself in Your Web Chick’s digital hands! Contact Bonny directly either by phone (1-609-379-CHIK) or by e-mail.

You can also “try before you buy” by stalking her online (in a good, non-harmful way). Bonny Clayton of Your Web Chick casts forth pearls of digital-marketing-and-website wisdom on her Facebook page and via her Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts.

    • Hi Bonny,

I didn’t merely make you seem awesome–you are awesome. Please notice my deliberate omission of exclamatory punctuation in the previous sentence. I’m delegating all my future exclamation points to you… 😉

      Regards,
      Lori

    • Hi Deborah,

Thanks so much for all the online affection regarding Your Web Chick’s guest post–every little bit helps.

I suspect you are a “Princess Bride” fan, are you not? I’ll know for sure if you tell me you’ve spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder…

      Regards,
      Lori
